Custom Built Orchestra

30 Oct

“I always been fascinated by the raw musical power that an orchestra can express, so, after creating a series of videos where I’m performing a multi-track piece with an instrument I designed, I decided to take the concept a step farther and create my own orchestra made of unusually unique instruments. The project started by handcrafting a diverse selection of instruments, then I wrote a composition where I could fit them all in and finally performed each part. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed doing it!”  ~Diego Stocco

Kind of Blue.

26 Oct

It’s been a rough morning, and in all honesty, I am not in search of a silver lining.  But for some reason, the below seems to be helping.

For your listening pleasure, Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue in it’s entirety. Enjoy.

The Colors of Spring/Summer 2013

24 Oct

Earlier this month, Pantone announced that its top color for spring 2013 is a shade of blue: Monaco Blue to be precise, which is kind of like a subtle hybrid of navy and cobalt. Compared to the glorious tangerine tango of 2012, some may find it a tab boring [read: less flashy].

Pantone Color Institutes’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, explained to Womens Wear Daily  that the shade “speaks to the practicality that we are seeing in society. You have to realize there is still concern out there for the economy.”

Noting that the runner up color is also a blue—Dusk Blue. However, the fashion forward won’t  have to spend the entire spring walking around in blue. The third and fourth most popular colors are both greens, Emerald and Grayed Jade, and the rest of the list is as follows: Linen, Poppy Red, African Violet, Tender Shoots, Lemon Zest, and Tangerine Tango’s distant relative, Nectarine.

The following shows all the colors of S/S 2013 used in fashion illustrations:

Your Business Needs More Than Great People

18 Oct

Today’s advice comes from our interview with Jim Burleigh, CEO at Cloud9:

“If you have to have the best of the best, you’re relying on your people to carry your organization; this won’t scale. You need process to ensure success.”

Aside from understanding your customers and “treating sales as a science,” Burleigh says that constructing your team is one of the most crucial elements in sales success.

To be the best, Burleigh told us you don’t actually have to hire the best. Instead, you should rely on great process which will allow you to “optimize your people, scale the organization, and produce superior results.”

“Now, of course I’m not advocating hiring and rewarding mediocre employees. Rather, evaluate what – or who – you’re expecting to drive your organization’s success.”
