Yes, gasoline prices have approximately doubled since Barack Obama became president — but they’re still below what they were in the final summer of George W. Bush’s administration. Under George W. Bush, the price of gasoline increased from $1.60 per gallon when he took office in January 2001 to $4.40 per gallon in July 2008, a jump of 275 percent. Gas tripled in price during the time Mr. Bush was in office. In order for President Obama to match Mr. Bush’s record, gas would have to go to $12.60 a gallon.

      Dearest Annie,

Thank you for educating me on the historical gas prices under the Obama and the G.W. Bush. Politico is a great site, founded by a trustworthy bow tie wearing gent.

Yes, I decided to post an image and entitle the post Gas (which is accurate)…humor (Hell, at least I thought so)…realism (Food for thought) all because I thought the person who owned the gas station had the, dare I say gusto/fortitude (read: balls) to change his sign in the matter, expressing his angst and comedic genius to the world. Knowing that I could easily share it with my readers, regulars, and the casual passer-by I did.

But now, as a right leaning but truly independent voter, I may take a second and respond with an exercise in logic, which many politically motivated people tend to lose when wrapped up in a ‘he said, she said’ type of debate.

You state, “Yes, gasoline prices have approximately doubled since Barack Obama became president — but they’re still below what they were in the final summer of George W. Bush’s administration.”
So it doubled. Ok, that’s good to know. In your left leaning brain, does that mean, if we elect President Obama to a second term,Obama will do all in his power to effectively cut the price of gas in half, back to where they were when he took office? If not, then the man who put the sign up has all the right to vent his frustrations, especially since it is not the price per barrel that effects him but the weakening of the dollar against foreign currency and his small business’ shrinking margins.

Also stated, “but they’re still below what they were in the final summer of George W. Bush’s administration.” Can you tell me what happened in that summer and the months preceding it? Noting that the price of crude oil is historically higher in the Summer months… but tell me was the U.S. at a state of war? We’re we drilling more or less at home and off the coast? What was the political climate like in the United Arab Emirates and other major oil producing nations? What was going on at OPEC? What was the state of the U.S. economy? Percentage of inflation? Did the 99% feel the pinch then or is that only happening now?

Lastly, if the price of oil is a sticking point for you, then tell me why would you vote for Obama (ONLY IN REGARDS TO OIL/GAS/PRICES as this is not a soapbox)?
What is Obama going to do to help you, me, and the creative blue collar businessman (referring to the gas station owner)?

      Please, please, please enlighten me.

      Best,

      Gus Waterford
