The Scottie Hampton Yachtsea Sunglasses

19 Mar

I have been quite fortunate to have spent the last couple of weeks viewing the world from behind the harlequin lenses of a finely crafted pair of sunglasses. Scottie Hampton, with a split base of operation (East Hampton and Palm Beach), is a new arrival to the sunglasses and clothing scene. One that I anticipate should be very well received. Having spent many summers sailing off the coast of Newport and Nantucket, the creative minds behind Scottie Hampton knew exactly what they wanted and needed in a pair of sunglasses. Scottie Hampton set out to make the “best looking and lightest weight yachting sunglasses that consumers had ever seen,” and I think they nailed it! Regarding the design and technology of the Yachtsea models, Scottie Hampton wanted its sunglasses to be light weight and durable, visually stunning, and better looking than their competitors, all without sacrificing any integrity in their lenses.

The amount of detail that has gone into each pair of these sunglasses is astonishing! Technically, the sunglasses are composed of scratch-resistant Grilimid Nylon frames with laser sculpted Tri-Coated polarized Revo lenses.Scottie Hampton’s lenses use the latest and most innovative technology and come in four different shades/colors: Harlequin, Sky Blue, Smoke, and Red Eye. I have had the great opportunity of using models that have the harlequin (rose-tinted) lenses and sky blue lenses. All of their lenses incorporate anti-reflective coatings and highly effective polarization which are specifically designed to eliminate glare, allow superior visual clarity, definition, and color transmission.  The pair with the harlequin lenses have quickly replaced my Ray-Bans as my go to pair of sunglasses. The greens are greener, blues are bluer, and it honestly seems that all colors are intensified and more vivid when wearing them.  A little online research will result in the scientifically proven fact that rose tint in lenses is excellent for low light conditions and fast action activities because it sharpens contrast and image resolution. Essentially, if you live an active lifestyle, these are the perfect sunglasses from sunrise to sunset!

Scottie Hampton sunglasses do not only look incredible, they are fabulously comfortable and provide complete protection from the elements as well.  Rest assured that each and every pair has been precisely crafted to deliver all day comfort whether you are flying, boating, driving, skiing, or watching horse racing! Spring is right around the corner and there is no better time than right now to make a small investment in some quality eye-wear! Get a pair of Yachtseas at Scottie Hampton’s website ->

Single malt whisky can beat the threat of cancer, thanks to high levels of a powerful antioxidant that kills cancer cells….Single malt whisky contains “more ellagic acid than red wine”…ellagic acid is an effective “free radical scavenger” that “absorbs” or “eats up” rogue cells…”So, whether you indulge in the odd tipple, or you are a serious connoisseur, whisky can protect you from cancer – and science proves it”

Cleaning your Sperry Top-Siders

12 Feb

With winter coming to a close, it is once again that time of year. Time for spring cleaning. This weekend I treated my favorite pair of shoes to a good scrubbing. For me and most of my friends, Sperry Top-Siders are a go to shoe almost daily. What’s great about these show is how versatile they are: dress them up with a sport coat or dress them down with jeans or shorts. And they fit comfortably everywhere from the country club to the boardroom, dockside to barside. But what happens when they have bourbon and Budweiser stains all over them and begin to smell? Follow these steps and reclaim your Sperrys!

1. Brush all large pieces of dirt and grime off.

2. Untie the leather laces and remove insoles (if possible) and give them a good scrubbing using warm water and dish soap.

3. Submerge your Sperrys in warm water. (Yes, submerge them. The shoes were meant to be worn on boats, therefore they were meant to get wet.)

4. Use a scrub brush and some dish soap then proceed to scrub them down. If there are certain stained areas that need more a little more attention, use a cotton ball and nail polish remover to “spot” clean them.

5. Squeeze and shake out all the excess water. Fill from the toe to midsole with newspaper and gently shape the leather to your liking. Set them out to dry in a cool place. Remove the newspaper on day two of drying, replace insoles when both are dry, and set in sun to warm the leather back up.

6. Enjoy your reclaimed Sperrys.

The Yacht Week

21 Dec

I wish I could write about The Yacht Week  by first reflecting on a personal experience. However, I can’t. And sadly, other than proximity flying, this is one thing I wish I could say I have done.

Here is a short excerpt from The Yacht Week  website:

“The Yacht Week provides an exhilarating experience of sailing, regattas, entertainment and much more… Gather your friends and be part of an epic voyage on Caribbean waters in the spring, Turkish, Croatian and Greek waters in the summer. Simply choose a sailing week and a yacht to accommodate you and your friends. We welcome sailors of all abilities and can provide you with an option to sail with a professional skipper.”

What is included in the price? The rental of the yacht with personal skipper, yacht equipment, all taxes, end cleaning, GPS and nautical charts, a dinghy equipped with an outboard motor and gasoline, sheets, blankets, towels, and a booming stereo system! Expect to eat dinner out two to three times during the week. Also, if you choose to dock the yacht at night, instead of drop anchor off shore, there will be a small docking fee.

The following videos will give you a great idea of what The Yacht Week is all about. Book your bachelor party now!

The work of Eldridge Hardie

8 Nov

Eldridge Hardie was born in 1940 on a small ranch near Boerne, Texas. In 1964 he graduated first in his class with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Fine Art at Washington University in Saint Louis. Hardie captures the fine art of the sporting experience through his paintings. His passion for bird hunting and fly-fishing have taken him from Canada to the Caribbean, the southernmost tip of South America, Scotland and all across this country. Hardie couples his passion and pursuits with his artistic talents to create one of a kind masterpieces that are comfortably celebrated in the likes of hunting lodges to museums. The below are some of my favorites:
