The British magazine Little White Lies covers everything Film. It takes roughly two months to create one magazine, so naturally they print six editions of the magazine each year. Their latest features Black Swan on the cover. This video breaks down the two month process into two minutes! Enjoy!

Spanish as a language for business

26 Dec

Monocle magazine is a “briefing on global affairs, business, culture, and design.”  Monocle, which is published in Britain, is filled with pages of interesting stories and thought provoking information. I came across the following statistics in the November 2010 issue and found them to be quite interesting, and worthy of a quick post.

7.5 per cent of the global population it is estimated, will speak Spanish by 2030.

14 million people currently study Spanish as a second language.

2050 is set to be the year when the United States will become the leading Spanish-speaking country in the world, with one in three of its residents being of Hispanic origin.

650 per cent increase in Spanish used on the internet between 2000 and 2009, making it the third most used language on the net after English and Mandarin.

150 per cent increase in people learning Spanish has been registered in Japan in recent years, showing that the East is serious about the language. This is mirrored by an 80 per cent increase in Eastern Europe.

Sir Richard Branson’s 10 life lessons

1 Dec

Sir Richard Branson is a British Industrialist, best known for founding Virgin group, which now spans over 400 companies. He is considered to be the 212th richest person on earth with a net worth of approximately $4 Billion U.S. As well as immense business success, Branson has personally broken a number of world records for high-speed boat and balloon journeys. Branson was knighted in 1999 for “services to entrepreneurship” and presented as a millennium icon.  A few of his newest ventures include Virgin Galactic, Virgin Luxury Hotels, and the first ever subsciption based iPad magazine, Project. Below is a short list of ten life lessons by this iconic entrepreneur.

1. “Ridiculous yachts and private planes and big limousines won’t make people enjoy life more.”

2. “I enjoy every single minute of my life.”

3. “But the majority of things that one could get stressed about, they’re not worth getting stressed about.”

4. “You can’t be a good leader unless you generally like people. That is how you bring out the best in them.”

5. “There is no one to follow, there is nothing to copy.”

6. “I can honestly say that I have never gone into any business purely to make money. If that is the sole motive, then I believe you are better off doing nothing.”

7. “I never had any intention of being an entrepreneur.”

8. “I made and learned from lots of mistakes.”

9. “If you can indulge in your passion, life will be far more interesting than if you’re just working.”

10. “Right now I’m just delighted to be alive and to have had a nice long bath.

Globe-Trotter Luggage

12 Nov

Can a luggage company craft a product that is well designed, aesthetically pleasing, and capable of capturing the hearts of generations of travelers? Why yes, yes it can. Enter Globe-Trotter. Since 1897, Globe-Trotter has set the standard in hand made luxury luggage. The company was founded by an Englishman in Saxony, Germany and then in 1901 moved to London. Throughourt the years, the company’s brand philosophy has not changed, and it is a simple one – never to compromise the integrity of the craftsmanship. Because of this philosphy, Globe-Trotter should consider adding a tagline or motto to their website and products. Maybe “For Life.”  Because if you were given a Globe-Trotter bag at birth, you would be willing it to someone else at death. As always, some of my favorite pictures to follow, or you can see their entire collection at http://www.globe-trotterltd.com/main.html
